In winter, Ushuaia offers one of the most exciting activities. Imagine yourself sliding down snow covered slopes on skis of soft snow while contemplating mountains and valleys that belong to the Andes Range, reaching the highest rocks and grabbing the slope to enter the forest paths. All this, combined with moments of relaxation in mountain refuges where you can recharge energy while enjoying the gastronomy or having a hot drink.
Alpine skiing and snowboarding in Ushuaia is an unforgettable experience. The weather conditions of these latitudes make the winter season enjoyable from June to October.
Ushuaia has two specialized centers to practice this sport:
Ushuaia Ski School located at the base of Martial Glacier, 7 kilometers from the city, offers a single track with a low slope, ideal for those who are just starting out and want to learn. There you will find equipment rental, the possibility of taking lessons and a great cuisine offer.
Then there is Cerro Castor, located 27 kilometers from the city. It offers a large number of slopes and infrastructure for all levels. It has equipment rental, lessons for all ages, a nursery for children and a diverse cuisine offer.
The city is ready to host the large number of tourists who come from all over the world to enjoy the snow. There is a big variety in hotels and gastronomy, equipment and clothing rental and the best winter centers to experience an uncommon winter season.
For the most adventurous people there is also the possibility of ski mountaineering, a modality in which you ascend "walking" with the skis placed in areas that are not marked. This activity requires specific equipment and physical preparation, in addition to mastering the technique for the descent. As it does not depend on means of elevation, it can be done in different mountains, not only in winter season, but as long as the snow conditions are suitable. You can ski mountaineering only with certified specially trained and experienced mountain guides.
